What is Heartburn?: Causes, Symptoms and Treatment

What is Heartburn?

A large segment of society suffers from heartburn, which is caused by many factors, such as psychological condition, inflammation or some food, or it can be due to treatments and medications that are taken up.

heartburn is the return of acids and chemicals produced by the stomach in order to facilitate the process of digestion back to the esophagus for some reason, and because the wall of the esophagus is very sensitive, they are affected by these acids, the first time the acids touch the wall of the esophagus causing inflammation and when it returns These acids return to contact the wall again, they cause the burning sensation of the person.

What Causes Heartburn?

Heartburn is caused by a variety of causes, such as diet and some lifestyle changes. Among these factors leading to burning stomach:

  • Eating too many foods may cause heartburn, including: chocolate, coffee, tea, and high-caffeine content.
  • Eating acidic fruits, garlic and tomatoes may lead to acidity.
  • Increased pressure on the stomach may cause gastric acid recovery. This pressure may be due to pregnancy, obesity, stress or even wearing guest clothes.
  • Diaphragm hernia may cause acid recovery.
  • Eat plenty of foods that are tender, fried, soaked, and so on.
  • Smoking also causes heartburn dramatically.
  • Some medications may cause acidity such as: drugs used to treat certain neurological diseases such as insomnia, aspirin and others.

Is Heartburn Serious?

Heartburn is usually annoying to many people. In some cases, the infectious acids that are secreted in the stomach are very dangerous to the lining of the esophagus in the case of reflux and if these acids persist within the esophagus for a period that may cause inflammation of the lining of the esophagus known as esophagitis. If the disease develops, it may turn into an esophageal ulcer.

Symptoms of acidity of the stomach

  • Burning sensation in the stomach, accompanied by itching and discomfort, and may spread heartburn to the top of the abdomen and chest.
  • Feeling nauseous alone or accompanied by vomiting.
  • Swelling of the stomach, is the feeling of saturation, and the feeling of pressure on the upper abdomen and stomach.
  • The appearance of blood in the vomit, or the appearance of a dark balloon in the stool, and this is evidence of gastric bleeding due to increased acidity.
  • Increase the number of unwarranted burping.
  • Saliva is collected in the mouth suddenly and repeatedly, due to the esophageal reflux caused by increased acidity.
  • Feeling stomach pain, getting more intense when you feel hungry, then fading for a short time after eating.
  • Chest pain, increased during and after eating. Throat ulcers especially in the morning, because of the rise of acids to them, and may become chronic ulcers in the case of continued acids.
  • Food reflux and acids, which appear sharply during esophageal reflux.

Treatment of Stomach Acidity

  • Stay away from foods rich in saturated fat and spices.
  • Avoid sleeping after eating directly.
  • Stay away from citrus especially when pregnant women.
  • Sit properly with the individual spine correctly.
  • Walk after eating for 10 minutes.
  • Stay away from smoking.
  • Get rid of as much weight as possible.
  • Breathe deeply whenever you feel anxious and nervous.
  • Eat cold, unsweetened milk after meals while reducing the amount of food.
  • Eat natural unsweetened carrot juice.
  • Take a glass of water with two tablespoons of rose water.          

Tips For Treating Heartburn:

  1.  Avoid eating fatty meals. Also do not go to sleep after eating directly but you have to wait at least two hours.
  2. Chew food well. It is also recommended to eat five snacks throughout the day and stay away from fatty meals.
  3. Avoid spicy foods, spicy foods and fries.
  4. Drink water in large quantities, especially after eating to reduce the concentration of stomach acids and remove the effect of the esophagus.
  5. Sitting during eating and not making sudden movements may cause acid reflux into the esophagus.
  6. Quitting smoking, which causes a lot of damage and works on the weakness of the muscle of the heart, which works not to return the fluid from the stomach to the esophagus.
  7. Chewing frankincense is one of the most important reasons for preventing acidity because it works on packing the esophagus with saliva and protecting it from infectious acids.
  8. Try lifting the head using an extra pad during sleep to avoid sleep back and also to attract infectious acids down.
