The Social Security Administration (SSA) recently announced a 2.5% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for 2025.
While this increase is slightly lower than the previous year's 3.2%, it will add an average of $48 to monthly retirement checks, helping Social Security recipients maintain purchasing power amidst inflation.
In early December 2024, the SSA will start notifying beneficiaries of their new 2025 COLA-adjusted benefit amounts through mail and the my Social Security online portal.
On December 31, 2024, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) beneficiaries will see their 2.5% COLA increase applied to payments ahead of the new year.
Beginning January 8, 2025, the first regular Social Security payments reflecting the new COLA will be distributed to recipients based on the standard birthdate schedule.
